Ramesh Pokhriyal, the Union Education Minister, has been removed from the Modi Cabinet. According to India TV, he was removed from his duties at the Education Ministry soon before the Cabinet enlargement.
Pokhriyal, a Lok Sabha MP from Uttarakhand’s Haridwar parliamentary constituency, is among those who have been released from the Modi cabinet ahead of the much-anticipated expansion, which comes soon after the NDA’s seven-year term ends. This would be the first time the Council of Ministers has been expanded since the NDA retook power in 2019.
Debasree Chaudhuri, a Union Minister, was removed from the Cabinet earlier today. She was the Minister of State for Women’s and Children’s Affairs. Debasree represents the Raiganj seat of West Bengal in the Lok Sabha.
Union Minister Thaawarchand Gehlot was named Governor of Karnataka on Tuesday. Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment was Gehlot’s portfolio.
The Council of Ministers now has 21 Cabinet ministers, nine Ministers with Independent Charge, and 23 Ministers of State. The Union Cabinet can consist of up to 81 people.
