Odisha on Monday reported its first positive case of coronavirus. The 31-year-old man who has been infected with the virus had travelled to Italy and has now been admitted to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar
He has recently returned from Italy and was put in quarantine in New Delhi following a screening at the airport in which he showed no symptoms of the novel Covid-19. He then travelled by train from New Delhi to Bhubaneswar and arrived on March 12.
News Agency ANI quoted Dr CBK Mohanty, Director, Health & Education Training, Odisha confirming the news. He said, ” One positive case of coronavirus detected in Odisha. He has travel history to Italy. He later took a train from Delhi to Bhubaneswar. The patient is admitted at a Bhubaneswar hospital.”
The patient reportedly started showing symptoms on March 13 and after consuming medicines prescribed by the doctors for flu-like symptoms, he did not recover from illness. Later he went for a check-up at Capital Hospital on March 14 where he was admitted to the isolation ward.
His blood and swab samples were sent to Regional Medical Research Centre RMRC Bhubaneswar. The report showed positive on Sunday night.
A special team of Health and Family Welfare department is keeping track of the entire situation.
The State government is reportedly collecting data of all those who had travelled with the student by train on the day so that they can be tracked for quarantine.
The man is from Bargarh Britt Colony area in Bhubaneswar. He was studying Computer science in Italy and was also doing a part-time job in Italy.
Doctors at Capital Hospital informed that the man’s health condition was stable. However, the patient’s sister alleged that the doctors gave two conflicting reports on his test.
“At 9:00 pm doctors informed me that my brother tested negative. Later at around 12:30 am the doctors informed he tested positive,” she said.
