The S&P BSE Sensex slid 200 points, or 0.42 per cent, to 52,130 levels and the broader Nifty50 index was below the 15,650-mark. ICICI Bank fell 2 per cent and was the top Sensex laggard, followed by Mahindra & Mahindra, State Bank of India, and IndusInd Bank (all down over 1%).
The Nifty sectoral indices were mixed, with Nifty Auto index, down 0.8 per cent, bleeding the most.
In the broader markets, the S&P BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices traded 0.9 per cent and 0.7 per cent down, respectively.
Oil India, Info Edge, Bharat Dynamics, TCNS Clothing, and VST Tillers Tractors are among 70 companies slated to post their quarterly numbers today.
