At the beginning of the film history, the skills of acting and singing went hand in hand as the filmmakers preferred actors who could sing well as well. But with the help of advancement in film technology, the practice was no longer the need.
However, Telugu actors, who make a strong on-screen presence, also involve themselves in singing at times, either out of their own interest or for their fans. Several stars such as Chiranjeevi, NTR have sung in their own films. Here are few stars who became playback singers for their film.
Pawan Kalyan’s Kodakaa Koteswar Rao in Agnyaathavaasi
The actor has sung a few songs in his previous films like Kushi, Johnny, Panjaa, Attarintiki Daredi. The song Kodakka Koteswar Rao was sung for Agnyaathavaasi, the film he was last seen in 2018. Anirudh composed music for this film.
Venkatesh’s Jingidi in Guru
Actor Venkatesh sang the song Jingidi Jingidi for his film Guru, which is a remake of the Tamil film Irudhi Suttru. He was seen enjoying the song while singing with music director Santhosh Narayanan.
Vijay Devarakonda’s What the Life in Geetha Govindam
The song Inkem Inkem became a huge hit from this film. But one song also made some controversy with its lyrics. That’s is the song – What the Life. Initially, it was named after the lyrics What The F. But later, it was changed to What the Life because of the controversial usage of words. Apparently, the song was sung by the actor Vijay Devarakonda.
Junior NTR’s Follow Follow in Nannaku Prematho
The actor showed much interested in singing for his films. He had sung songs in his films like Yamadonga, Kantri, Adhurs and Rabhasa. The actor sang he song Follow Follow from Nannaku Prematho in the Devi Sri Prasad musical. Not just that, the actor also sang in Kannada too. He became playback singer for Puneeth Rajkumar’s film Chakravyuha singing Geleya Geleya song in S Thaman music.
Akkineni Nagarjuna’s Kotha Kotha Bhasha in Nirmala Convent
Tollywood Yuva Samrat turned singer not for the movie he acted in, but for the film that he produced. In 2016, the actor produced a youthful romantic film named Nirmala Convent along with Nimmagadda Prasad. The film featured newcomers Roshan Meka and Shriya Sharma in lead roles. He sang the song Kotha Kotha Bhasha which is all about love.
