Last week, the members of the Valencian fruit and vegetable cooperative Copal held an extraordinary assembly in which they approved by a majority vote joining the second-degree cooperative Green Fruits, the main citrus association within Anecoop.
With this integration, the various cooperatives that are part of Green Fruits will now market more than 100 million kilos of fruit, namely 92,000 tons of citrus and 10,000 kakis. With the entry of Copal, Green Fruits is mainly expanding the segment of kakis, as this fruit previously only made up a small percentage of its offer.
Green Fruits was founded in April 2018 by three fruit and vegetable cooperatives: Cooperativa Citrícola de La Safor from Gandía, S.A.T. Novacitrus from Oliva, and Cooperativa Agrícola de Pego from Alicante. These three producer associations decided to join forces to streamline their activities and to continue to grow. Now they are joined by Copal, an association that has been running for over 100 years.
The four cooperatives that make up Green Fruits are also members of the umbrella organization Anecoop, which has supported the initiative from the start.
